How the Calculator module works
The module asks for two things in order, and the second one does not exist until the game has accepted the first. That order is the whole puzzle: the arithmetic is easy, and holding the two steps apart is the part teams get wrong.

- 02Enter the first resultSubmit that number on the module and wait for it to be accepted.
- 03Check the LEDAfter the first result is accepted, the LED color appears.
- 04Enter the final digitThe solver combines the first result’s odd/even status with the LED color to find the final digit.

There is no pattern to memorise here. Each LED colour moves the answer somewhere different, and two of the eight cells are 0 — so read the cell rather than guessing from the colour.

Keep each step separate
This is the one module where calling out more information is worse than calling out less. Say the equation, wait for the first answer to be entered, and only then read the light.

Call the equation
Read it as it appears: “Fifty-five plus two.”

Answer with the first result
Give the number to enter, and nothing else yet: “Enter fifty-seven.”

Then call the LED
Once the first answer is accepted, read the LED and give the digit: “Red light” → “Press three.”
Don’t call out the LED until the first answer has been accepted.
Common Calculator mistakes
Using the LED before Step 1 is finished
The LED belongs to the second step. Solve the equation and enter the result first.
Using A or B to decide odd or even
Use the result from Step 1. Neither of the two numbers shown decides this.
Mixing up odd and even
57 is odd and 58 is even. Read the last digit of the result before using the table.
Reusing the previous LED
Use the LED shown after the current first answer, not the last one.
Changing the equation without restarting the second step
A new equation means a new first result, so the LED has to be read again before the table applies.
